Having briefly presented the activities of IFToMM that currently comprises 48 countries from all over the globe, Prof. Marco Ceccarelli expanded on such a prioritized topic as the support of education and science in the field of mechanisms and machines.
“Having arranged this event, we want to once again highlight the interest in promoting the engineering education, establishing the international cooperation. IFToMM Executive Council has been thinking for a few years on the idea of arranging the Olympiad that was proposed by Prof. Veniamin Goldfarb. We believe this event is important for those present here, for the Federation and its future.
I am very happy that it takes place in Russia where the education, in particular the engineering one, is paid much attention to.
I would like to address the young generation and tell you that you need to be proud that you’ll become good specialists and work for the benefit of your countries. You should be happy that you’ll contribute to the development of the society. And if you look back, you’ll see that engineering specialists made far more for their countries than politicians. And during these years, engineering sciences, in particular mechanism and machine science, have been playing a fundamental role.
This Olympiad is very important for many reasons as it arouse much interest in the international community. Besides, IFToMM Executive Council received the proposal on arranging the next such competition. I am sure that all the students participating in the first Olympiad will gain the necessary experience both from the engineering point and from the point of communicating with their colleagues. Thank you for gathering here, thank you for participating in the Olympiad! Enjoy this event and Izhevsk, and all the best to you all!”
